(AP) ? The Stony Brook University baseball team is making a pit stop back on its New York campus before heading to its first College World Series in Nebraska.

The unheralded Seawolves upset Louisiana State University, a six-time national champion, to earn a trip to Omaha later this week.

The Seawolves are the first team from New York state to reach the College World Series since 1980 and the first team from the Northeast since Maine in 1986.

The campus, 60 miles east of Manhattan on Long Island, is planning to welcome the squad at a rally on campus Monday afternoon.

The team, which played in Division III as recently as 1995, is set to take on UCLA in the first round of the World Series starting on Friday.
